Sometime ago in Manila, at the Quirino grandstand where our new President Noynoy Aquino took his oath of office, a police officer took as hostages several Chinese tourists and killed them all at will. The event was not just a minor and isolated disaster as many perceive it to be. It was actually a boil whose term has come.
As usual we Filipinos will be talking about this tragedy for days on end until eventually the pain eases out , the wound starts to heal, and everything is forgotten as if nothing really happened. Right now, we still blame each other except ourselves. Although a few days ago, our President took responsibility for everything. Probably he saw the blame coming.
For a people that has been enslaved too much too long in their history, accepting a fault is not a wise option. A servant does not have this kind of luxury. Only masters who are sure of themselves would dare accept a fault as if it was something to even brag about.
But if all men are created equal in dignity then isn’t debasing oneself in one’s own land the worse kind of injustice ? Now, even our Chinese neighbors shout for justice. What the Chinese didn’t know was that the scoundrel who killed their own kind also shouted for the same thing: JUSTICE.
Unfortunately his call was not heard. As with millions of other Filipinos who live a life of silent desperation and bear his share of injustice with a smile. Our good President smiled after the tragedy. Unfortunately, he was criticized for doing so. We have a “damn if you do and damn if you don’t” kind of a situation here . Modern management principles talk about a “win-win” solution. In my beloved country, you win none and you lose all, if your just an ordinary tax payer.
Is there something wrong with our national destiny?
Because in almost all countries , heroes liberate the people and they live happily ever after.
In our country, probably 90% of our best and brightest were killed by enemies coming from the despotic tandem of state and ecclesiastical personnel who operated alongside Judases who betrayed noble causes for silver. And our people lived in the same state of despair ever after.
Sadly, even until these very days. We Filipinos easily forget the past and unknowingly accept the condemnation of repeating the mistakes it bears. All these confusions are not foreign to a breed of people who seem to have forgotten how to care for themselves, for their country. Perhaps, a double major result of a long and malingering influence that was wreaked upon us by foreign rule since the advent of modern age way back in the16th century.
Because unknown to many Filipinos , and probably including our good President who shares the burden of many in the land, the Philippines is still living in medieval times wherein church and state still scratch each others back. And if you do not belong to either one of these two powerful, closely connected, and well entrenched institutions, you are nothing but muck in the moat that surrounds their well fortified institutional castle.
Our heroes knew about the roots of all these injustices long before the closing days of 19th century Philippines, where politicians and priests wielded absolute powers that corrupted both the temporal and spiritual spheres.
Unfortunately we Filipinos easily forget, for reasons only the angels and saints found inside our big and holy churches, will probably know.

This event has been quite different from others I have written about and has really hit home — literally.
As some of you may know, I am a native of New Orleans, born and raised, until I left for college (to Duke in North Carolina). I spent two more years in New Orleans between college and grad school and visited my family there every year until they moved to Memphis a few years ago. This week has been hard for me, even with my normal spiritual reserves.
I have spent the week trying to get in contact with friends, while also trying to stay abreast of news and (continually hopeful of) progress and improvements in rescue. I have also spent the week ruminating and attempting to get a sense of what this huge, unprecedented national tragedy was about on a higher level. And that is what I would like to share with you.
As always, it is my sense that a huge event like this disaster has to do with shifts and lessons and I’ll share my sense of what those may be.
Connectedness
One huge lesson that I feel is implicit in this catastrophe is that we are all connected, irrespective of our geographical location, not to mention our age, race, gender, nationality, religious persuasion, etc. So many times in the past, we may have been able to look at a natural disaster and, while feeling compassion for those directly affected by loss of family, friends, home, livelihood, etc., we may have also felt unimpacted directly by the events.
This disaster, being of such a huge magnitude, reminds us that we are all connected because we will in all likelihood unavoidably be impacted. Being able to watch coverage of disasters on television, I feel, can lead us to feel like spectators, watching others without participating ourselves. If we have felt separate before, even in the wake of previous hurricanes, we will quite likely be impacted this time — by an influx of evacuees into our areas needing housing, food, jobs, and resources and also economically by the seemingly inevitable rise in gas, fuel, and heating costs. This time we may be continually reminded of our interconnectedness for months. This may be a painful hammering home of the lesson of interconnectedness: if we haven’t been able to feel it in our hearts, we may likely be reminded in other ways.
This is the single greatest lesson from this terrible event, I feel: that we must remember that we are all connected, in spite of how busy or stressed our lives, in spite of any perceived differences among us, in spite of anything that may have served to blind us from our sense of connectedness. And this remembrance of our connectedness must be through the heart, through feeling it, and not just thinking it.
Some other thoughts on connectedness: At our best, in such a horrific event like this, we will feel compassion — heart-opening — for those displaced who have lost homes, family, livelihood, etc. (This is, after all, quite simply a massive heart-opening experience.)
And yet we may also encounter those who feel less of a connection. I have been surprised to hear those expressing the feeling that this disaster represents a clearing of “negative energy;” some have even made references to “Sodom and Gomorrah.” (I heard similar thoughts expressed in the wake of the terrible tsunami: that because so many of those affected “weren’t Christians” they were being “punished” — of course by a supposedly strictly Christian God.) You might guess that I do not subscribe to these views that, quite frankly, I regard as coming from a less than healthy mentality. (And, interestingly, in New Orleans the “Sodom and Gomorrah” that people refer to – the French Quarter – was untouched by the destructive flooding, while so many residential areas, where the citizens lived, were devastated. So much for the theory that the destruction was to “punish wicked people!”)
What is it that can drive us to feel such things? The interesting thing about making negative judgments such as these is that doing so allows us to separate ourselves from those about whom we’re making the negative judgments. They become “other” and less than. Judging negatively in this way allows us to close our hearts and compassion off. For those who may be sensitive, it may also be a way to feel less pain. So, making these pronouncements about why others are being “punished” or must suffer can represent a way of distancing ourselves from their plight.
In no way do I feel that Katrina occurred to clear the Gulf Coast and New Orleans of “negative energy.” In no way do I feel that the Gulf Coast and New Orleans are being punished for their “Sodom and Gemorrah”-like ways.
I do feel that those in the Gulf Coast and New Orleans have participated in a great drama unfolding for the benefit of us all — perhaps even for the clearing of “negative energy” within us that leads us to want to blame victims for what happens to them. Pontificating about others’ participation in their own disasters is an excellent way of intellectualizing and removing ourselves from feeling emotion. It is a seemingly comfortable mindset that cocoons us from feeling, experiencing, and being connected, while it allows us to sit unscathed in our ivory towers and cast aspersions. Mindsets and beliefs are mindsets and beliefs, whether they’re conservative in nature or come from supposedly spiritual teachings – and they tend to serve as a buffer to our own openness to feeling and experiencing.
The day may come when we not only feel compassion for what the victims of Katrina have lost and experienced, but also gratitude for the lesson their participation in this tragedy has given us all.
Lessons in Energy
I have personally received some lessons in energy through this. Beginning last Sunday I started feeling somewhat sick to my stomach. I knew I had no other symptoms of coming down with something — a virus or illness; I just had that sick feeling in the pit of my gut.
That sick feeling continued through Monday, even after it had appeared that New Orleans had dodged the bullet (as newscasters put it). I consciously wondered what that sick feeling in my gut was about, because it continued to persist. That sick feeling I knew was warning me that something really bad was coming.
Tuesday morning it became much clearer. I suddenly knew that it had to do with the destruction of my hometown.
The reason I mention this is that, even though I visited New Orleans every year my parents still lived there, I hadn’t felt a connection to it for years. I even made negative judgments about its qualities and vowed that I never wanted to live there again (just go visit and eat in the wonderful restaurants). I found it to be an “ignorant” city. (There’s that judgment again.)
I have continued to be sick to my stomach. I have been in a state of shock. I have grieved for the city I have known so well, watching scenes of devastation and recognizing those places I know so well.
The lesson in energy is this: that it would appear that our hometown, where we grew up, is entwined somehow deeply in our energy field — even aside from how it can evoke memories in our consciousness. It permeates the energy in our being, not just in our memories.
In addition, we can have a bodily awareness of something at a very deep level without knowing consciously what it’s about (or perhaps before we are prepared for knowing it consciously).
Causality & Other Connectedness
Inevitably, when something this huge and traumatic occurs, we question why and how. What contributes to the causes of events such as this? Is it punishment from God or the Universe? Is it manmade because of human conduct? Is it from a combination of factors?
Although I feel that all things happen for a reason, we must also remember that we humans are not invulnerable and that there are forces greater than human ones. As much as we might like to think that we can “manifest” our future and what we want, there are indeed forces greater than those on the human level.
Nature indeed is a massive force and one greater than man. As much as we humans may have the hubris to think that we can conquer the world, Nature has a way of reminding us that it indeed is greater than we are and that we humans are just one part of the larger web of life.
And it is often when man tries to separate him/herself from nature and upsets its balance, intentionally or unintentionally, that we can be reminded of our true role in the greater order: we are merely parts — and interconnected parts — of the greater whole. And when we try to artificially maneuver and change the greater whole — the environment — we may find ourselves reminded by rude wake-up calls that our world is an interconnected ecosystem that doesn’t always respond well to our monkeying with it.
I personally have a sense that even deforestation throughout the world has contributed to a rise in violent storms, aside from the effects of global warming. And, moreover, even in spite of human disruption, Earth has always had intermittent natural disruptions, from volcanoes to earthquakes to tornadoes to violent storms. Because of this, it may be more useful to respect Nature and its implicit complexity of design, rather than try to harness it, subdue it, or sever its interconnectedness.
Other whys we tend to consider include what astrological triggers there may have been. I read one astrologer’s attribution of this event to the square between Mars and Neptune. I myself (certainly no professional astrologer) pondered the encroaching opposition of Saturn and Chiron. I emailed George Ward, a wonderful astrologer in Raleigh, whom many of you know. (His website is at http://www.ntastrology.com/george/george.html.)
George in his customary wisdom told me about the conjunction between Mars and Sedna, the new planet discovered in 2004. As George wrote, “Sedna is an Inuit/Eskimo sea goddess and she deals with respect for nature, storms from the sea, etc.” Mars, as we know, deals with martial (warlike) and assertive energy. This conjunction is powerful and will be in place until February 2006 (which could portend more disastrous storms, God forbid). George also mentions the large number of solar flares affecting Earth.
So it would appear that there are indeed some potent astrological aspects at present (not easing up until February). Interesting that one of them speaks to our need to respect nature and storms from the sea.
Further Lessons in Environment
Questions of environment have already been raised in the wake of Katrina. In the instance of New Orleans, there has been discussion already about whether New Orleans should be rebuilt, given its below-sea level elevation.
My strong sense is that, insofar as New Orleans and its environs is concerned, this disaster may come to represent an opportunity to rebuild it in a stronger manner and one which resolves long-standing problems in the infrastructure — as well as an opportunity to reverse ecological damage.
One problem highlighted by this tragedy has to do with the erosion and loss of Louisiana’s wetlands and barrier “islands” — which actually serve as a barrier to hurricanes. A wonderful benefit that could come from this national tragedy would be the recognition that this long-standing issue needs to be addressed. We have unfortunately in this country had the attitude for decades that we could do whatever we wanted to the environment and not suffer any consequences as a result. This hurricane should serve to teach us the converse.
In looking at the causes of barrier island and wetlands erosion at the mouth of the Mississippi River, there is actually a multiplicity of causes, from dredging in oil and gas locations that interfere with natural tidal flows, to deep shipping channels that alter salinity, to nutria imported from South America that have been eating the wetlands — to even the levees built for flood control along the Mississippi River that prevent the silt flow and build up that actually constructs the Delta.
Even fertilizer runoff from farms hundreds of miles from New Orleans has caused a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico.
That said, one of the largest causes of the loss of this natural hurricane protection – the barrier islands and wetlands – is the oil and gas industry, which has benefited every citizen of the United States. Whereas Texas and Florida have received up to 50% of their oil and gas industry revenues from the Federal government, Louisiana has historically only received 2-3%. So Louisiana, at the hands of the Federal government and for the benefit of everyone else in the country, has been forced to sacrifice its natural, God-given hurricane protection with no compensation or restitution.
This tragedy should highlight the need for the restoration of the wetlands and represent a clarion call for our respect for this environmental necessity. It should also serve to remind us of our place in the environment as parts of the whole and teach us to be better stewards, not dominators, of this beautiful planet we’ve been given as a habitat.
An Opportunity?
I want to feel that down the road this terrible, tragic event will represent an opportunity, even in the rebuilding aspect. For example, New Orleans’ location below sea level obviously makes it vulnerable to flooding and inundation from both Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River. The pumps that pump water out of the city were engineered and built in the 19th Century and were a marvel of engineering then. I don’t think they’ve undergone much change in design since then.
Rather than tolling the death knell of a city lying below sea level, this event represents an opportunity to rebuild and re-engineer solutions to below sea-level elevation. The Netherlands did it in the 50s through an innovative approach that has been quite successful and should inspire the U. S. to similarly be innovative. (Indeed, a Dutch spokesman, as cited in a CNN article, said, “I don’t want to sound overly critical, but it’s hard to imagine that [the damage caused by Katrina] could happen in a Western country.”)
Indeed this disaster can be a call to re-awaken the dormant “can do” attitude that used to be so evident in this country and that led us to be so resourceful and innovative. It would appear that our “can do” attitude has been replaced by complacency born of comfortableness and affluent self-indulgence. Terrible catastrophes such as the present one could serve to re-ignite that resourcefulness, out of sheer necessity.
Another aspect of opportunity for the rebuilding of New Orleans lies in its strategic location and importance as a port. I was informed a few years ago that New Orleans had been losing a large percentage of its port business to other ports due to the outmoded nature of New Orleans’ port facilities and equipment. Surely the devastation wrought by Katrina represents an opportunity to retool and modernize New Orleans’ port capabilities and facilities. As we often find after the mind-numbing destruction of disasters, devastated areas can be rebuilt in an even stronger manner afterwards, resulting in a refurbished and improved area.
Even the massive effort of rebuilding the city itself and its buildings, both businesses and homes, could represent an opportunity for the huge numbers of residents displaced and out of work. Just as the WPA (Works Progress Administration) put scores of people to work during the Depression, jobs could be made available to New Orleans residents for the rebuilding of New Orleans. What better way to give people back an income than in the rebuilding of their own beloved city?
Individual Opportunities?
Our own individual responses to this week’s events will be as individual as we all are. And yet I feel that there is a clarion call to remember our interconnectedness, to open our hearts to each other, to look for opportunities and ways in which a phoenix can arise from the ashes (and we can re-invent ourselves), to look for the transmuting light that will inevitably return after the dark, and to hold hope while grieving and sharing. Personal pain can definitely challenge our spiritual platitudes, as I have learned this week in my own pain, and yet I continue to feel that everything does happen for a reason, while I also know that I need to allow myself to grieve for my hometown and for the pain others are going through.
Some people have donated money, some have donated food or clothing, some have opened up their homes or volunteered their time. Some have prayed or sent healing energy.
I also remember the animals — all the pets that may have died or have been left behind and are panicked, hungry, and hoping for rescue — all the animals in the zoo who have met whatever fate. And the animal rescue groups have not yet been allowed to go in and begin their animal rescue efforts. I also include the animals in my consciousness, thoughts, prayers, and contributions.
I trust that we will all navigate through these difficult waters and times — and be able to garner the lessons and good that lie in potentiality for us, eclipsed perhaps at present by the obscuring dark. I feel, as always, that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Addiction is a very serious and a progressive disease. It needs to be attended to as soon as detected, or else it can become very dangerous. If someone in your family is detected of addiction of any substance, getting him the best available treatment is the most important. You will find a number of different programs for addiction treatment in Wisconsin, some specializing in drug treatment, some in alcohol treatment.
Depending upon the level of the patient’s addiction and the type of his addiction, you must choose the correct treatment program. But choosing a qualified program from the many available options for addiction treatment in Wisconsin is very important. Choosing an unqualified program is as bad as giving no addiction treatment to your loved one. Let us study in brief why it is necessary to choose a program which is qualified over others.
But first let us see what a qualified treatment program is. Here is a look at what a program on addiction treatment in Wisconsin entails.
A qualified treatment program is the program which is affiliated with the state authorities and that the program meets the criteria provided by the state health authorities Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the National Clearinghouse. These are the common criteria used all over the United Nations. The different states have the right to add certain criteria depending on the different situations in their state but the basic criteria remains the same nationally. A list of the qualified treatment programs for addiction treatment is available on the federal substance abuse websites.
One finds a lot of other treatments programs which are based on spirituality and faith based healing and even religious programs for abuse treatment in Wisconsin which are not recognized by the state as a qualified treatment. And hence a person cannot enjoy the benefits the state provides to all the qualified treatment programs in Wisconsin.
The Benefits of a Qualified Treatment Program in Wisconsin:
1. Low affordable cost:
The qualified treatment programs are mostly conducted in the treatment centers which are affiliated by the state. Hence most of the treatment centers receive funding from the state. Thus a qualified treatment program will be very cost effective here and would be much more affordable.
2. Sense of security:
A qualification by the state for a treatment program for addiction treatment means more value. This means the people of Wisconsin or any nation are able to trust the treatment and bring their loved ones who are addicted to a substance without worrying about the quality of the treatment centers. An addiction treatment in Wisconsin is recognized as a qualified program after it has been approved by medical experts and professionals.
3. Benefits from Insurance companies:
The insurance companies also cover treatments only for a qualified addiction treatment in Wisconsin. As the programs are affiliated to the state, the insurance companies trust them and are assured that the treatment centers are will be strict in their admission procedures. Thus if you choose a qualified treatment program in this state, you can be sure of your claims being settled by the insurance company. However, the same cannot be said for the unqualified treatment programs.
The major difficulty:
With the number of advantages, there is also a disadvantage with choosing a qualified treatment program. As the addiction treatments are gaining more awareness and benefits from the state authorities, the number of families wanting to put their loved ones into a qualified treatment program are also on a high. Thus one may find it difficult to admit an addicted person in the desired treatment centers as they will have a long waiting list for patients. These waiting lists can go on from several weeks to several months, differing in each treatment centers. This can be frustrating.
On the other hand, with the amount of increasing patient, the professionals may find it a bit taxing to keep individual tabs on everyone. With the long waiting list, the treatment centers may also reduce the individual time given to relax after the detoxification treatment. There is always a possibility of the quality of the doctor’s input going down with the increasing work load.
Here, those people who sort external help, that is the help of an interventionist for the smooth sailing of their entire treatment programs, have a little advantage. These intervention professionals have a partnership deals amongst them. Due to this, the treatment centre reserves some quota of seats for patients who come to the centre through the interventionists.

On Monday, November 27, 2006, I had the opportunity to speak with Christopher Barran, while he was his mother's home in Calgary, Alberta. The previous night he had done for the local public. Unfortunately, bad weather prevented him from assisting a lot and yet he had always been satisfied through the night.
"People were saying the words to songs, even those that were not so popular." It was a great experience and natural high-Barran I was standing.
I have known Barran fifteen years. I used to be executive assistant to a shopping mall in Calgary, where Christopher's father owned a pharmacy. I walked in one day and saw a young man behind the counter wearing a Poison T-shirt. I reminded him that and he said it was a good thing he went to the concert. He also recalled music, then how I liked the excitement I felt when listening, then the difference I am listening to rock "Song of Los Angeles" his first CD. So I asked him how he felt the music changed.
Barran feels he is more mature now. Whereas before his music was all about women and the hunting of Ferrari (which he and a companion, in fact, had a clause in a contract they would get a Ferrari if you sell so many albums) Now it's more spiritual.
When you visit www.christopherbarran.com – and I urge you to do – you'll find that the Agape International Spiritual Center is a something that means much to Christopher. So I asked him how he came to be associated with them.
"When I got people in Los Angeles told me I had to go to the Agape church, how she loved my music. So I went and saw this incredible Minister Dr Michael Beckwith. "Barran Beckwith is speaking very positive and respectful. He described the man as a spiritual force to consider and think if Dr. Beckwith could convert anyone. You can find a link to the Center Agape International Spiritual via the links page on the website of Christopher.
Christopher met more coherent, more spiritual than when I already knew. I asked if this change has been a revelation or a more gradual. In the beginning, but gradually, later said in the interview that this has changed with a heartbreaking story.
While visiting a hospital for children with polio in Pune, India, Christopher looked into a room and saw several children with varying degrees of pain. Asked one worker what had happened and explained that these children had undergone surgery the same day. The hospital was too poor to provide anesthesia or pain murderers. One of the nurses suggested that Barran sing what he did. It was like the magic that the children were lost in music without forgetting their pain at this time. Christopher has done that day the power of his gift was and how much they could do well. Back at the hotel in the van, he shouted. The dangers of celebrity music is not worth much unless he can do something constructive with it. And who is now his goal. To achieve a level of celebrity and use the power associated at this level to help the needy.
Christopher has traveled to many countries, the spread of hope through his music. Philippines, Nepal, India, Costa Rica, Kenya and Peru are some places that have been blessed by the sounds of Christopher Barran. Although I have never had the honor Christopher heard live (the only time I had had car trouble and arrived just as the show ended) Christopher says is an experience that exceeds CD. So if you're lucky, take it.
But almost did not hear from Christopher gift. He was determined to be an athlete to participate in the Olympic downhill race in a near-fatal accident ended that sleep. After curing, a friend spoke of young people singing with his band and Barran friend's mother, a trained opera singer, Christopher ear. Formed Christopher for a while their training during their vocal coach. The rest, as they say, is history Olympics and the loss was a gain well worth the music.
But our conversation was not serious and spiritual in nature. If you go their site and see the pictures, it is with Christopher and a flame. Christopher is bright and said: "The love of my life in Peru. I thought meant that Peru was the love of his life so I asked him why.
"No, the flame," he said. "That my girl friend. She has great legs. "Type of hair, do not you think?
And then I asked him about the fact that he was born in the United States South, which met in Calgary and now lives in Los Angeles. Where considers himself a citizen?
"An earthling." Was his response immediately. I laugh.
"I was in Paris that will mean a world citizen." Observed. This time it was Christopher's turn to laugh.
"I thought."
It was great to have the opportunity to speak with Christopher Barran and still catch up on what's happening. He grew and matured, but I expected after so long. However, it is still charming and funny. I'm anxious to stay in touch with him, saw his career take off. I hope someday that – I knew him when!
Visit his website and take a look www.christopherbarran.com. Listen to excerpts from her debut album, "Song of Angels, "learn how to order, learn more about Christopher. do not let you down.

Can a person who lacks the understanding and insists that God told him to kill animals for pleasure are …?
… Each light on them? Isaiah 66. Christ did not heal the physical world with their blood. But with spiritual power! Blood is a symbolic term for personal spiritual energy. Hebrews says: "You have not yet resisted unto blood! "We must put aside any resentment, anger and pain in ourselves. Because these things can not exist in the sky. AKA Anthony Silva

Lesson 1 – Be Here, Now!
Though her life is hectic, Moriya tends to the connection to her soul daily, moment by moment, as she bounces email and faxes in cyber space for most of the same work-reasons we do. She tends to this connection while she edits manuscripts and theses for a select few professors in Jerusalem. She tends to this connection while neighbors drop in unexpectedly and through the incessant ring of the phone.
“Typing,” she says, “as a mechanical task equalizes the spiritual side in me.”
With peace and acceptance in her heart, Moriya deals with the rub of every day life in Jerusalem – a healer of this the world, but no longer quite in it.
She, herself, is convinced that her soul will keep her shielded from discomfort and unhappiness until the time of her death which, last time we talked about it, was expected to occur in her eighty-sixth year, twenty-two years from now.
v
Understanding the concept of being in the present, in the moment, in the present-moment, simply means being aware of ourselves within the endless string of random and boring little moments that connect our all major ones – the happy ones and the devastating ones – like the many small breaths that connect each of the *big ones*.
v
On the one hand, our *big-breath moments* are the sharp-edged moments we live for while, on the other, they are the gate-crashing moments against which we have absolutely no protection and no way of keeping out; the bad news, the dark moments, the metaphoric blows to the head, in their myriad of forms.
To put it another way, being aware *in the present* is what fits neatly within the space caught between two words: alert […] passivity.
v
Have I been sleeping?
I’ve been so still
Afraid of crumbling
Have I been careless?
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Take me where I am supposed to be
To comprehend the things that I can’t see
Cause I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now [6]

Being in the present moment simply means observing ourselves in the tiny little present that in truth is the ephemeral present. We are aware of it, but let’s not give it a name. Let’s not qualify it or our response to it.
The present moment that links breath-to-heart only needs to be made tangible and quantified – acknowledged, but not judged.
It does not need to be labelled in any way, for the minute we slap a label on that tiny, bubble-thin moment, the minute we give it a rating, that moment is
already of the past and we have missed *being* in it.
v
I have read it in enough books to accept that being in the present simply means
shutting out the monkey-chatter, the relentless flow of random thoughts that are not part of any problem solving process – it is about shutting down thoughts that invade our brain the minute we stop talking.
v
Actually, I will even go as far as to suggest that most of our talking – en masse, as a society – has evolved as sabotage against being present in the moment and in favor of robotic responses to our buttons being pushed.
“We always think our negative emotions are produced by the fault of other people or by the fault of circumstances. We always think that. Our negative emotions are in ourselves and are produced by ourselves. There is absolutely not a single unavoidable reason why somebody else’s action or circumstance should produce a negative reaction in me. It is only my weakness.[sic] No negative emotion can be produced by external causes if we do not want it. We have negative emotions because we permit them, justify them, explain them by external causes, and in this way, we do not struggle with them. “ [7]
v
“Here is a little story that could have been found in the back pages in The Jerusalem Post,” said Moriya in her usual light-hearted manner. “There had been an accident on the highway during peak hour traffic and a lot of cars were stopped bumper-to-bumper. People left their vehicles to have a look along with others who came out of nowhere to get closer to the action, as people like to do.
The scene of the accident was very crowded. A journalist who happened to be there tried to get closer himself, but couldn’t because of all the people rubbernecking. So, he thought about it for a while, and finally he came up with a brilliant idea. He started to push his way through the crowd shouting, “Let me get through! Let me pass! I am the son of the victim! It is my father out there!” Immediately the people parted to let him through. Once the journalist, camera held above his head, reached the scene of the accident, he saw that the victim of the collision was a donkey!”
v
Films are popular mostly because however improbable the plot, the characters supposedly react as we would.
The next time you are settled in front of your screen, observe the characters as they go about their business, supposedly our daily business, and decide how much thought goes into any of their decisions.
Have their buttons been pushed and they react on impulse, even if embarked on a course of action after a quick tete-a-tete with their brain?
All things equal, how would your actions/reactions be any different?
v
Are these characters doing a knee-jerk tit-for-tit or tit-for-tat or are they present in the moment, energetically contained, operating from a balanced view of themselves?
v
Being in the moment simply means that once we have quietened our mind, we only need to focus on whatever it is we are doing at any specific moment – the moment under our feet.
When I first learnt to rollerblade, I can guarantee that from the moment I would get up on my blades to the moment I unlaced them, I was totally *in the present*. Ninety-nine percent of the time. No other way but. The second I would take my mind off the stride, I would invariably end up on my bum.
Whoever remembers the absolute focus that seized our brain while on our first driving lessons knows what it means to be present in the moment.
Oppose the novice’s alert awareness to the zoning out that usually overpowers experienced drivers when we cruise on the highway, or even in our back streets. Compare it to the blanking out that takes over as we scan supermarket aisles – which may well be the same zoning out that overpowers us as we lift food to mouth over breakfast. It may well be the same as the blanks we bring home, even after a sedate get-together with friends when we only remember some snippets of the conversations and the general look, perhaps taste, of the food we ate, but we can’t remember what the person facing us was wearing or what else was going on around us – provided no one created a scene.
v
Being in the moment can even be made fun as we look at EVERYTHING the way a tracking ranger would observe every branch, twig, scrape in the dirt and inspect every animal dropping to get meaning out of the scene in front of her. Except that, ideally, being in the present moment means that the looking and the analyzing are done through our soul’s eyes, not our 21st century brain. In this lies the challenge that karma presents to each one of us – the line in the sand that not many wish to cross.
v
Being present, in the moment, simply means understanding that whatever we are doing – want to do, or feel we ought to do – might have to be put on hold or even postponed indefinitely.
Such is the cosmic wisdom in which we need to trust since we, little blind mice that we are, have no idea of the fine mesh that settles invisibly around us until it holds us in its snare of spiritual lethargy.
v
Below an abstract drawing of what can only be that of a bloated frog, bearing a slight resemblance to Jabba the Hutt, is a thought left dangling by Alan Watts: “If you think by sitting you can become a buddha …” [8]
v
OK, so I understand the theory, but I find the practical application, the day-to-day application of the theory very, very frustrating. Shouldn’t being aware of ourselves within our present be as natural as breathing?
For me, it is as easy as breathing under water.
v
If I attempt a rating of the inner contentment I feel, I can only rate it a puny 5 out of 10. And that is because the amorphous lump of anxiety that sits heavily in the area of my solar plexus acts like a lead apron that smothers even my relatively carefree moments.
It is the price I pay, very much unwillingly, for not recognizing the unique newness and freshness of each moment as it presents itself.
The more I think of this, the more I understand that each one is, in fact, as fresh as the proverbial morning dew.
However, I can categorically say that some moments have an imprint that
seems very familiar. They look and feel and just about taste like ones that have already been played – over and over.
These moment bring on an “uh-uh! Here we go again” gut reaction.
v
Like the ocean, our ego-persona appears to be smooth enough on the surface. It absorbs. It hides what churns below. It deals – up to a certain point. But our
ego-persona has great limitations. Unlike the ocean, it is never renewed. It only relies on past memories. The past is static and memory is fallible.
v
Reality check#1: no such string of seconds, strung one after the other, has ever presented itself to me in the past.
Not as it presents itself to me now.
Not as it will present itself tomorrow.
The irony of it is that I respond to most *new* moments within each *new* day through the jumbled and sticky mesh of past experiences.
Put simply, I deal with today-moments as I dealt with yesterday-moments.
I taint them with the same energy spikes.
How comforting is it to me knowing that I am not alone in doing this?
v
Resolution: “Let’s not drink Today out of yesterday’s mug,” dixit C.C.
v
Being present in the moment means that I cannot let writing absorb all of my time and all of my thoughts.
As I type this text, there is a workman on our patio. He is adjusting the slant of our gutters. I am standing by to hear his call through the screen door, as he will want to explain this and that about the state of the rusted guttering and how he proposes to repair it.
Should his call catch me in mid-sentence at the keyboard, I will hit ‘save’ and I will get up.
It will be my cue to practice stilling my mind long enough to listen to what this workman wants to tell me and be in the fresh moment that has just presented itself to me.
If Moriya were here, she would know how to decode this man’s *chitchat* about my gutters to give me a string of messages of symbolic spiritual relevance – such is another of her gifts.
“Hello?” A man’s voice calls out from the patio. “Are you there?”
Oops, quickly hit ‘save’. Prac time!

I am pleased to introduce our very first customer shows -> Markco of Fair My two copper. His blog focuses on the WoW economy and shares his tips for making gold in WoW. I jumped on his blog a few times and I enjoyed sitting on his thoughts of the situation economic game that various changes implemented by Blizzard. Has recently been presented in the Tobold MMORPG Blog, for what promises to be an active participant blogs WoW Family.
Markco set out to write a post with his thoughts on how best take advantage of the Dual-Spec that many of us believe is just around the corner (I vote next patch!). I am sure that is something that most of the scribes I know I'm looking for ways to revive the efforts of my recent, sad entry. So without further ado, here is his analysis:
"Preparing for 3.1 Double Features – by Markco
Hello everyone! This is my place guest for the first time in Kaliopa blog and I want to show everyone how to prepare for when the long-awaited dual-spec patch goes live. I am the owner, operator, and shows every day just took my two copper and 10 years of observing game designer how a World of Warcraft gold. Armed with my knowledge, I guarantee you will make thousands of gold on the day of the review. Let's start …
I. Preparation for the review of Day
The Daily Record Northrend Quest Complete all day.
The same goes for the registration of minors to obtain. You know you can stop doing it every day when you begin to generate duplicate entries already present in your book list. Note that the inks of snowfall can be bought for ten sea and other inks inks can negotiate with a single ink of the sea That means that the best way to prepare for review of specifications is to store twice the ink of the sea before them and trade in the glyphs you need.
My strategy for the first time, to see all the glyphs only in the auction house to see if she was there. I print a list of everything that I can type glyphs instead of to search the auction house search awkward. Here all glyphs so you can print for patch days. I would also advise to make 2 of each glyph, even those that sell well, just so you can make people who try random character glyphs. Double sheet will be a day of testing, should be taken all symbols displayed for sale Buyers curious about your server.

Quick Tip: When you read this list to understand that the sale of the glyphs are the most popular flip flop. Why? Good say that 90% of the warriors are prot (completely fake, but fake), why would buy prot glyphs? They will want a set of DPS glyphs instead. The classes that are primary reservoirs (Druids Warriors, Paladins, and DK) series will want to DPS. Another example could be priests. Very few priests today are the shade as are likely to shadow glyphs sell the best day of the review. Keep this in mind when storing days for the patch.
II. Patch Day Practices: A Study on how I've signed up 20k gold for the first time out and how you can learn from my experience on this occasion.
Step 1: First storage of grass was the last time, this time is the sea of ink storage To be exact, I was ready for the patch of grass 5800 days to help me achieve and then let me do what I wanted glyphs. With the ink of the sea will be able to trade easy on the bottom right. I have a record of all bank inks ready this time (98 x 20 = 1960 inks) and two other banks glyphs pre-made chips.
Step 2: Do not you get caught in their class glyphs, I posted an alt character first with two out of every single glyph ridiculous prices. Some of these are actually sold, but I see what happens in the next patch day, will have to outsmart your opponents probably prepared this time. A few minutes of my posting alt, dozens of hungry auctioneers me sometimes twenty or more glyphs around 50% of undercutting. Then all melted as soon as my first assignment was made (it took an hour) and all other two minor glyphs each type in my main character. You should try a similar approach and look for bargains. People will be so stupid to write glyphs prices to resort to pre-patch. If you have a glyph of gold and twenty loot with someone three gold medals each, you know best shot? Indeed, should not hinder them, however, purchase and re-issue, because if you sold yet to make a huge profit. Repeat this process for thirty glyphs and money is important. Remember that people will want to buy glyphs SU and will be extremely difficult for the auctioneers to keep up with demand. Imagine if every person in the server purchase blue gems, blue gems how about six to be exact, the same day. That's what the inscription will be like. Oh, and most people have abnormally deals available, and this type of application will benefit crazy.
Step 3: In 48 hours I checked the auction house every opportunity you gave me (I have also worked 16 hours and slept probably 12 at this time for what was not glued to the screen.) A good goal is to check the house auction, once every two hours to see what they are selling the glyphs and must be replaced. It is likely that almost all the glyphs are gone and repost them will be a real pain. Advise tenders for his articles, but not automatically allowed to decide the price, which should use the earlier estimates of the market. Remember not must show more than two or three of any glyph because otherwise you're welcome undercutting. If people see a glyph in its six glyphs just wait and let your sale or possibly buy yours for the repost. Keep as little as possible glyphs auction house is a winning strategy in the days of the review. I know it allowed me to earn twenty thousand gold in two days of the sale of individual glyphs. The trick is being published only once every few glyphs purchased copy. At the end of the source is very low and the price remains wonderfully high.
Step 4: Have a minimum profit you want to.
Learn how low 'Ready to sell glyphs. Every single glyph now the same value in terms of profit, as are most of the inks Wed If the glyphs are flooded in any field, continue to show one or two in the minimum profit you want to do. Make sure you are still raking in profits. The hairy patch things of the day and will have to know their limits, as there will be many buyers for the other glyphs in a given time.
III. The use of trade correctly Chat Patch Day
Do not publish individual glyphs in the sector. Do not spell books published in the trade. Instead, you should publish something like the following:
"ALL Azeroth and Northrend glyphs for sale, PST for book entry "
This type of advertising does two things. First, it draws attention the reader in the word "ALL" and "PST for the record book." Mentally, the reader must see all other posts on the commercial channel order income to whisper your address book. Once you have whispered, should respond immediately with his book of spells and the market place preset their glyphs. My suggestion is sitting in the mailbox of the resistance, which is right next to where you can apply glyphs in the first place. This marketing strategy should greatly increase its glyph sales to the auction house to work their magic. Remember I only sold in the fifty glyphs with this method and more than seven cents per auction house. Therefore, it is preferable to correct the actions the auction house and then spend time in trade chat items when sold. Create a whisper tab "that contains whispers only to help keep track of your conversations with buyers.
Hopefully this will help the most profit on the day of the review and the following week. Thanks for letting Kaliopa client on your blog! This place is an excellent resource for players of WoW and I want to post again.
Thanks and good luck
